Local production companies are thriving at Players' Ring Theatre

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Now in its 26 season, Players' Ring Theatre in Downtown Portsmouth is home to a variety of talented local production companies, offering area artists an affordable space to perform and valuable support. Eversource recently presented Players' Ring Theatre with a contribution that will be used to fund ongoing projects.

'We're proud to provide a venue where local artists and production companies are empowered to take bold risks and make daring choices,' said Players' Ring Theatre President Barbara Newton. 'In addition to serving our artistic community here on the Seacoast, we are also committed to making the arts accessible to all members of the community by offering low ticket prices.'

At the historic 19th century building on Marcy Street, which is owned by the City of Portsmouth, members of the community enjoy award winning shows ranging from classics like the theatre's upcoming performance of 'A Christmas Carol,' to original productions that were later turned into feature films, like David Mauriello's 'Just Say Love.' More than 200 actors, directors, playwrights and technicians work together to produce plays at The Players' Ring each year. Over the past five years, those involved in productions at the theatre have earned more than $250,000 for their work. Original works often account for half of each season's offerings, giving playwrights an opportunity to see their work performed on stage for the very first time.

'Together with Players' Ring Theatre, we're proud to support the local artists who make Downtown Portsmouth a vibrant place to live and visit,' said Eversource Community Relations Specialist Maria Letourneau. 'This contribution is just one of the ways Eversource is serving the neighborhoods where we work and live.'
