Operators returned Limerick Generating Station Unit 1 to full power this weekend after successfully completing the station's spring refueling outage that began in March.

Pottstown, PA - April 14, 2014.  Operators returned Limerick Generating Station Unit 1 to full power this weekend after successfully completing the station's spring refueling outage that began in March.

Nearly 2,500 Exelon employees and highly-skilled contractors performed thousands of inspections, maintenance activities, tests and technology upgrades in addition to replacing one-third of the reactor's fuel.  Limerick also replaced three main power transformers during the refueling outage.  The transformers are equipped with the latest technology for increased monitoring to help provide safe, clean and reliable electric power to customers.

"It takes a great deal of skill, coordination and hard work to execute a refueling outage successfully and this outage was no exception," said Tom Dougherty, Limerick site vice president. "I'm proud of our highly trained workers for demonstrating their commitment to safety and teamwork that will help the unit provide reliable power to customers for another two-year operating cycle."

Limerick Unit 2 continued to operate during the Unit 1 outage. Limerick Generating Station is located 21 miles northwest of Philadelphia. With both units at full power, the site can produce enough carbon-free electricity for approximately two million homes.
