One of two nuclear reactors at the Calvert Cliffs power plant in Maryland was shut down by its operator after a control rod fell into the reactor core and power generation was affected, The Baltimore Sun reported Monday citing a spokesman at the plant.
The incident, which occurred Sunday, didn't pose a public risk, a spokesman for Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, or CENG, told the newspaper. CENG, a joint venture between Exelon Corp. (>> Exelon Corporation) and Electricite de France SA (>> EDF), owns the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.
The spokesman said it wasn't known when the unit would be restarted, according to the report.
