The 20th Annual Holiday Burn, hosted by Exponent and the Menlo Park Fire Department, is scheduled for 1:30 PM on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the MPFD/PG&E Regional Training Center.

For the past 20 years, Exponent and the Menlo Park Fire Department have worked closely to bring fire science, firefighting and fire safety together. Each year around the holiday season, we showcase a series of demonstrations to highlight fire safety concerns around the festivities.

This year, we will show the proper and improper ways to extinguish a kitchen oil fire, the differences between how a fresh and a dried-out Christmas tree burns, as well as a side-by-side comparison of two staged rooms to show how interior furnishings impact fire spread. The finale will be will be our famous turkey fryer fire, which highlights the dangers of improper frying techniques.

Please come join us on Thursday, December 7, 2017 to see these demonstrations first-hand, as well as meet the engineers and firefighters behind these demonstrations. Fire safety is very important, especially during the holidays when trees, candles, lights, and home cooking can form the perfect storm for a disaster. Nothing drives homes the importance of this safety like seeing the fires first-hand!

We wish everyone a safe holiday season.
