As part of its vehicle improvement programme which addresses upgrading passenger comfort, Hong Kong's metro operator, MTRC, has awarded a contract of more than € 13 million to Faiveley Transport for the upgrade of the door system of 90 trains.

The passenger access doors will be upgraded with a state-of-the-art noise attenuation system and lower guiding rail providing a quieter passenger ride and increased reliability. Faiveley Transport's innovative inflatable door seal will be installed on the surrounding of the existing doors while maintaining existing passenger throughway.

MTRC's choice has taken into account Faiveley Transport's extensive experience in the revision and upgrade of door systems, its 25 year track record with inflatable seals and its long successful presence in Hong Kong.

"Using our proven know-how and applying our Services strategy based on innovative solutions and cost optimisation, we offered an upgrade instead of a complete new door replacement. After the concept was validated through a pilot scheme using Faiveley Transport's solution deployed on three trains, MTRC opened the competition to international tenderers. Faiveley Transport was selected amid tough competition" declares Benoit Birault, Faiveley Transport Managing Director in Hong Kong.

The contract comprises the industrialisation of the validated solution and the serial production of the major equipments which will be carried out by Faiveley Transport in its Centre of Competence for doors in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, France. Project Management, the installation and customer support will be handled through Faiveley Transport Far East, its entity in Hong Kong.
