Family Dollar Stores, Inc. (NYSE: FDO) is looking to fight hunger and fuel the minds of kids this back-to-school season. Today, the Company announced its partnership with Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger relief charity, for their ‘Feeding Families, Fueling Hope’ campaign.

“With 49 million people in the United States, including 16 million kids, struggling with hunger, it’s crucial that we all work together to help solve this critical issue,” said Bob Aiken, CEO of Feeding America. “We are happy to stand shoulder to shoulder with Family Dollar and its customers in helping to make sure that all of our neighbors have enough food for their families.”

As part of the program, Family Dollar will collect customer donations across their more than 8,200 stores in 46 states, with the goal of raising one million meals for children and families in need. The in-store campaign will run from July 29 through August 31.

Campaign Facts:

  • For every dollar donated, up to nine meals can be provided to those in need
  • 90 percent of funds raised will support local food bank programs.
  • 10 percent of donations will support Feeding America national programs such as the BackPack Program and School Pantry Program.
  • 188 Feeding America-affiliated food banks will participate in the campaign
  • The campaign aligns with Family Dollar’s addition of more than 300 new food items and the retailer’s ‘Every Day Low Pricing’ initiative, in which the retailer has lowered prices on more than one thousand items storewide.
