Faurecia has begun its first-ever mass production of semi-structural parts using composite materials.

Since mid-November 2015, Faurecia has been manufacturing composite spare wheel trays for the new Renault Mégane sedan, assembled in Palencia, Spain. This is a first for Faurecia, as it aims to optimize and automate its manufacturing process to adapt to the requirements of mass production.

The new composite spare wheel tray is 2.5 kg lighter than the steel counterparts-a weight saving that helps reduce fuel consumption and improve ergonomics on the customer's assembly line. The use of composite materials also provides designers with greater freedom in the shapes they create.

With this new program, Faurecia boosts its presence in the composites market.
