Ferrari : Armstrong takes his first Formula 3 win

Having started from pole position, Marcus Armstrong took his maiden victory in the European FIA Formula 3 championship at the Norisring.

The 17 year old New Zealander led the whole race to take his first win in Formula 3. It came on the street circuit after taking pole on a wet track. Armstrong confirmed his strong pace when conditions turned to dry, always looking in control once the lights went out and the field ran down to the heartstopping braking area at the first corner. He led all 40 laps.

Marcus did a great job of managing the rest of the race, including a Safety Car period, eventually celebrating as he took the chequered flag for what was a very special win. 'It was an almost perfect race,' he said from the podium. 'Starting from pole was the key and the team provided me with a very well set up car. This win is payback after a start to the season in which I suffered quite a bit of bad luck. I hope this win is a watershed moment for the rest of the season, when along with my Prema team, we can get the results we deserve.'

The first race of the Norisring weekend also produced points for the 18 year old Russian driver, Robert Schwartzman, who finished sixth and Guan Yu Zhou who fought his way up from the seventh row of the grid to finish ninth. The busy weekend continues with two more races, both of which will feature a Ferrari Driver Academy student on pole, Race 2 with Schwartzam and Race 3 with Armstrong.
