Called 'Fibria Insight,' the platform encourages working with startups, companies, universities and research centers in the pursuit of solutions and new business opportunities

São Paulo - Fibria, the Brazilian company that is the world's leading producer of eucalyptus pulp from planted forests, holds on October 6, two webinars (Portuguese and English) on its open innovation platform. As such, those interested in participating in the challenges can clarify their doubts on the registration process and the subsequent stages.

The webinars will last an hour and the call in English will begin at 11 a.m. (10 a.m. in the NYC/USA), while the call in Portuguese will begin at noon. Access can be made by telephone or Internet. All the questions will be answered directly by representatives from Fibria's Research and Technology, and Technical Support areas.

Registrations for the challenges in Fibria Insight are open till October 16. Projects selected (a maximum of 20) will be announced on November 3 and will undergo an immersion process at Fibria. In December, the projects will be presented to the evaluation panel and the finalists will be announced.

Currently, two challenges are open. The first is related to microfiber pulp, where the objective is to find ideas that help Fibria to discover innovative applications for this product across diverse business segments. The second challenge is to find improvements in the process of packaging pulp bales, currently made with wires.

Those interested in participating can send their proposals via the platform website www.fibriainsight.com. Fibria will select the best projects, which will go through a process of preparation of the business plan jointly with professionals from the company. In the

final phase, viz., project demonstration (called 'Demo Day'), qualified candidates will present their solutions to a panel consisting of executives and specialists, who will elect the winner. The process is concluded when Fibria acquires the project or defines a partnership for joint investment, if the project still needs funds to become operational.

'This is our first initiative in open innovation and we expect to discover good ideas that can bring new perspectives to Fibria's businesses, going beyond our current boundaries. We expect entrepreneurs, scientists, academics, businessmen and specialists from around the world to participate,' says Cesar Bonine, Regulatory Affairs and Intellectual Property Manager.
