As the federal mandate that all state WIC agencies provide benefits via Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) grows closer, more states are turning to FIS™ (NYSE: FIS), a global leader in banking and payments technology as well as consulting and outsourcing solutions, to provide EBT-based benefits to households in need.

More than 205,000 households in New Mexico are enrolled in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and more than 450,000 households in Wisconsin receive benefits via SNAP or Women, Infants and Children (WIC) – both federal programs created to provide support to individuals and families. FIS recently completed the successful conversion of New Mexico’s SNAP and implementation of the Wisconsin WIC benefits program to EBT card services, after supporting Wisconsin’s SNAP program for nearly a decade.

FIS was awarded both multi-year contracts because of its superior customer service, a strong reputation for stability and innovative fraud management solutions, including real-time transaction monitoring capabilities and revolutionary tools to manage and immediately act on security risks, thus removing the compliance burden from clients.

“Many households rely on dependable and seamless access to SNAP and WIC benefits to support their families and we’re pleased that FIS has partnered with New Mexico and Wisconsin to support these critically important programs,” said Jim Johnson, division executive, FIS. “The combination of FIS’ proven technology, industry expertise and innovative fraud management capabilities gives states peace of mind that benefits are being delivered reliably and securely to families in need.”

FIS’ Government Solutions Group provides EBT support relationships to all 50 states, and it serves millions of SNAP recipients and WIC participants nationwide.
