Fifth Third Bancorp today announced that its more than 18,000 employees celebrated Fifth Third Day by providing more than 800,000 meals to fight hunger throughout its 12-state footprint. This marked the fourth year that all of the Company's affiliates joined together to fight against hunger. More than 770,000 meals were provided in 2014; 550,000 in 2013; and more than 340,000 in 2012.

Fifth Third Day is celebrated annually on May 3, 5/3 on the calendar. For more than 20 years, the Bank has used its holiday to recognize the contribution of its employees, thank its valued customers and support communities where it operates.

"Fifth Third Day affords our employee family a great opportunity to work together to benefit their local communities," said Kevin T. Kabat, vice chairman and CEO of Fifth Third Bancorp. "It’s a privilege for us to help improve lives by providing for the most foundational needs of our community members.”

Fifth Third's affiliates identified needs in their local communities and designed their holiday celebrations:

  • Fifth Third Bank (Cincinnati) partnered with the FreeStore FoodBank to assemble Power Packs distributed through schools to ensure at risk children have something to eat on weekends.
  • Fifth Third Bank (Kentucky) employees served lunch at St. Vincent De Paul of Louisville and the Catholic Action Center of Lexington and also held a Feeding Our Communities Campaign Food Drive for these organizations.
  • Fifth Third Bank’s South Florida affiliate held a Feeding Our Communities Campaign Food Drive in April to benefit the Salvation Army.
  • Georgia employees volunteered as food sorters and/or served meals at three local organizations: Golden Harvest Food Bank, Atlanta Community Food Bank and Atlanta Union Mission.
  • Fifth Third Bank (Central Ohio) is sponsoring Empty Pockets, Full Plates collection devices at Port Columbus Airport. Passengers helped fight hunger by depositing their coins in the specially branded, secured boxes prior to heading to their assigned gate.
