Finmeccanica: Mauro Moretti appointed President of the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe

Mauro Moretti is the new President of the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD). Mr Moretti, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Finmeccanica Group since May 2014, was appointed to lead the organisation, which comprises member associations in 20 countries, during the Association's Board of Directors meeting and General Assembly held in Brussels today. Mr Moretti, who takes over the baton from the CEO of Safran, Jean-Paul Herteman, was chosen to lead the ASD thanks to his significant experience within industry and leadership skills shown at international level.


Commenting on his appointment, Mr Moretti said:"I am delighted and honoured to take over from Jean-Paul Herteman who has been key to strengthening ASD's development as a driving force for our sector". He continued by emphasizing "the need for the Association to concentrate on the key priorities in the areas of Civil Aviation (revision of EASA's Basic Regulation), Defence and Security (Preparatory Action on CSDP-related research) and Space (Copernicus and Galileo)".

The ASD's primary mission is to promote and support the competitive development of the Aerospace, Defence and Security sectors in collaboration with European Institutions and member associations. Spearheading and coordinating innovation and technology, the Association contributes to creating a unified and clear vision of Europe's strategic interests. The ASD counts 27 member associations in 20 countries and represents over 3,000 companies and 80,000 suppliers, many of which are small and medium-sized enterprises. Europe's Aerospace, Defence and Security industry employs approximately 778,000 people, has a turnover exceeding €197.3 billion and invests more than €20 billion in Research & Development.
