FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2014-07 First Nickel Reports the Lockerby Mine Will Resume Operations

TORONTO: May 8, 2014. First Nickel Inc. ("First Nickel", "FNI" or the "Company") (TSX: FNI) reports that the Ontario Ministry of Labour ("Ministry") has released the suspension of underground operations in all areas of the mine, except for the level where the accident occurred on May 6th, which remains under restricted
access. This follows an underground inspection by the Ministry on May 7, 2014.
The Company will continue to facilitate the on-going Ministry investigation into the accident, which will continue for an undetermined length of time.
The Company will begin recalling its workforce later today. Prior to resuming operations, employees will be reintegrated into the worksite through a series of sessions designed to provide a safety reorientation, which will reconfirm the Company's commitment to providing a safe working environment for employees and contractors.
Thomas M Boehlert, President & Chief Executive Officer commented: "During this difficult period, the Company's top priorities are supporting the Bissaillon and Methe families as well as friends and co-workers affected by the tragic accident, and continuing to strive to provide our employees and contractors with a safe working environment, to ensure all who enter the mine site are able to return home safely every day. I would like to express my gratitude to the Mine Rescue Unit, Sudbury's other mining operations who assisted us, the local community, and everyone who has expressed condolences and support over the past days."
