COLETTE GARNSEY JOINS FLIGHT CENTRE TRAVEL GROUP BOARD

THE Flight Centre Travel Group (FLT) has strengthened its board of directors, with Colette Garnsey formally appointed as a non-executive director.

Ms Garnsey is one of Australia's most respected retail sector leaders and has more than 30 years' senior management experience, which includes high profile roles at David Jones, Pacific Brands and Premier Investments.

In her most recent executive position, she served as Just Group Limited's core brand director.

FLT chairman Gary Smith said Ms Garnsey would be a valuable addition to FLT's board as the company continued to develop its omni-channel leisure network, alongside its global corporate travel business and its emerging in-destination travel experiences network.

"When this board vacancy arose, we immediately initiated a search for a director with a skill-set that would bring new perspectives and dimension to the board and to the business," he said.

"Given her vast experience in brand and consumer insights, cross channel marketing, international business and innovation, Colette emerged as the ideal candidate.

"We are delighted that she has been able to join us and look forward to her contributions and insights as we continue to develop our three core business sectors globally."

In addition to her extensive experience in executive roles, Ms Garnsey is an Australian Wool Innovation board member and has served on the advisory board of Australian Fashion Week and the Melbourne Fashion Festival.

She has also advised the CSIRO, The Federal Innovation Council and the business advisory boards of various Federal Trade and Investment Ministers.

The appointment was foreshadowed at FLT's Annual General Meeting in November, when the company said it intended to formally appoint Ms Garnsey to fill a board vacancy that arose after Cassandra Kelly resigned during the 2017 fiscal year.

In addition to Ms Garnsey, FLT's five-person board also includes:

  • • Managing director Graham Turner

  • • Mr Smith, FLT's chairman; and

  • • Non-executive directors Rob Baker and John Eales

The appointment is effective immediately. Ms Garnsey will hold office until FLT's 2018

Annual General Meeting in November and will then be eligible for election by shareholders.
