Fluor (NYSE: FLR) executives, accompanied by French government officials, participated recently in the project initiation ceremony of Hexcel Corporation’s (NYSE: HXL) new carbon fiber plant located in Roussillon, southern France.

The facility will produce aerospace certified polyacrylinitrile (PAN) and carbon fiber, the advanced composite material required for the production of the world’s latest generation of wide-body aircraft.

Fluor completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase and is presently executing engineering/design and procurement for the facility, so that construction can begin later this year. Fluor is also responsible for construction management of the plant, which is expected to be completed in 2017.

“Fluor congratulates Hexcel on this significant milestone and looks forward to continue working with the company across the globe,” said Tom Hendricks, vice president of Fluor’s Industrial Services business and president of the company’s French entity. “Our significant previous Hexcel project experience as well as Fluor’s extensive track record in Europe will be fully utilized to enhance project delivery throughout the life of the project.”
