Luxembourg City - Brussels, 1 October 2015 - Fluxys Belgium and Creos Luxembourg are proud to announce that they have successfully launched the first ever gas market integration between two European Union Member States, namely Luxembourg and Belgium.

The successful merging of the Luxembourg and Belgian gas markets is the result of around two years of close collaboration between Creos Luxembourg, Fluxys Belgium and their respective regulators, the Luxembourg Regulatory Authority (ILR) and Belgium's Regulatory Commission for Electricity and Gas (CREG). This market integration is fully in the spirit of the European Union's aim of building a single gas market without borders where gas can flow freely from one country to another.

Pascal De Buck, Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of Fluxys Belgium: 'We firmly believe that market integration is the best way to enhance the functioning of the liberalised gas market and boost security of supply in Europe. That is why we are absolutely delighted that we have managed to create an integrated market for Belgium and Luxembourg. As pioneers in market integration, Fluxys Belgium and Creos Luxembourg - as well as our regulators - have had to overcome numerous challenges but this has enabled us to gain valuable knowledge and experience in view of wider integration with other neighbouring markets.'

Claude Seywert, CEO of Creos Luxembourg: 'Both consumers and suppliers will benefit from the merging of the Belgian and Luxembourg gas markets, as Luxembourg's security of supply will be strengthened and market functioning will be improved. With annual consumption of around 20 billion cubic metres and some 70 active suppliers, the integrated market opens up more opportunities for competition and boosting liquidity at the Zeebrugge Trading Point (ZTP). Since transmission costs will no longer be included in suppliers' gas prices, consumers will have better price transparency.'
