Ford is bringing back the four-barrel, but this time around, it’s for a different kind of fuel – the kind meant to motivate working truck customers.

Ford engineers have received a patent for a unique cupholder design between the front seats. The design has two main components – a combination cupholder and storage bin with upper panel that slides from left to right to transform the storage bin into two additional cupholders. And if a driver or passenger needs more open storage space, the panel easily slides back to the right, clearing the way for bulkier items that won’t fit in a cupholder space.

With the 2017 Super Duty intended primarily as a work truck, typically for crews of four or more, Ford spared no attention to detail in terms of ensuring accessibility to fuel. The new four-barrel assembly brings the total number of cupholders on the all-new truck to 10.

“Hard working Super Duty customers love having cupholders and storage close at hand,” says Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. “This innovative and transformable cupholder is another insightful example of how the Ford Truck Team knows truck customers better than anyone else.”

The all-new Super Duty with two-into-four-barrel cupholder assembly arrives this fall.
