Fortescue condemns AIMPE strike action PERTH, 6 NOVEMBER 2014: Fortescue Metals Group Chief Executive Officer Nev Power has condemned the strike action initiated today by the Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers (AIMPE).

"Fortescue, and the other companies that operate out of Port Hedland, are collateral damage in this dispute. We have not been involved in negotiations and yet our businesses are punished when AIMPE doesn't get its own way.
"This sort of industrial action damages Australia's reputation as a place to do business and it has the potential to hurt thousands of innocent employees in the Pilbara who work for the companies affected by the strike.
"There is something fundamentally broken with a system that encourages a small group of employees, with pay and conditions that most Australians would envy, to hold an entire country to ransom. We are monitoring the situation and will take all possible steps to prevent industrial action impacting our business, our people, our customers and the economy.
