Media Release Fortescue donates equipment to local community organisations Port Hedland, 13 July 2017: Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) has donated thousands of dollars in office equipment to Port Hedland community organisations, following the relocation of its Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC).

More than $6000 in office furniture, lockers, stationary and kitchen supplies have been provided to the Pilbara Indigenous Women's Aboriginal Corporation, Wangka Maya Pilbara Aboriginal Language Centre, Youth Involvement Council, Bloodwood Tree Association's Wapa Maya Program (Port Hedland Sobering-Up Centre Inc) and Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation.

Fortescue General Manager Port and Rail Fernando Pereira said Fortescue was focussed on supporting community organisations in Port Hedland and working together to create a vibrant and sustainable town.

"We are proud of the relationships we have built through funding, volunteering and in-kind support. These donations are another practical example of the support we're committed to providing," he said.

Pilbara Indigenous Women's Aboriginal Corporation Chairperson Kayleen Arnold said the donation of furniture and other white goods would allow them to create a welcoming environment for their women and families and set up an area for private consultations.

"As an organisation that deals solely with women and their children, the donation by Fortescue is greatly appreciated by our women as the limited funds we have secured can be spent in other high need program areas," she said.

After eight years at the North West regional TAFE Pundulmurra Campus, VTEC is now operating from Fortescue's Community Office in South Hedland.

"The relocation of VTEC to a more accessible, central location at the Community Office in South Hedland will also increase the presence of VTEC in Port Hedland," Mr Pereira said.
