FRA/rap - Today in Frankfurt, Fraport AG's Dr. Stefan Schulte, executive board chairman, and Ryanair's David O'Brien, chief commercial officer, jointly announced the Irish carrier's planned launch of passenger flights from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) - Germany's most important aviation hub - with the beginning of the Summer Timetable 2017. As a result, flight offerings via FRA will expand thanks to Europe's largest low-cost carrier. Ryanair's first destinations to be served via Frankfurt will be Alicante (ALC), Malaga (AGP), and Palma de Mallorca (PMI) in Spain, as well as Faro (FAO) in Portugal.

Fraport's CEO Schulte said: 'We are pleased to have Ryanair, Europe's leading low-cost airline, in our program at Frankfurt soon. Beginning in the summer schedule 2017, we will be offering passengers in our region another attractive travel option - using the modern Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Thus, we are responding to the strong and growing demand in our region for this aviation segment. Ryanair's decision to come to FRA underscores the increasing importance of Frankfurt for low-cost traffic. We wish Ryanair 'Always Happy Landings' here at Frankfurt.'

Fraport's cooperation with Ryanair is predicated on long-term growth of the airline at Frankfurt Airport. The basis of this cooperation with be formed by meeting the special requirements of low-cost airlines via customized processes and operations, which also facilitate short turnaround times. In the medium term, Fraport will also meet the increasing demand for low-cost offerings by adapting passenger and terminal processes accordingly.

Speaking at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Ryan's chief commercial officer David O'Brien said: 'We are pleased to launch a new base at Frankfurt am Main airport from the end of March, our 9th German base and 85th in Europe, with 4 new routes to Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Palma, which will deliver 400,000 customers per annum at Frankfurt am Main airport, as we add another primary airport to our German network. Our two based aircraft represent an investment of $200 million, which further underlines our commitment to growing traffic, tourism and jobs in the Hessen region. We look forward to working closely with Fraport to deliver industry leading efficiencies and further growth at Germany's biggest airport.'
Beginning in March 2017, Ryanair is expected to offer daily service from Frankfurt Airport (FRA) to:

AGP (Malaga, Spain): one daily departure from FRA at 07:10

ALC (Alicante, Spain): one daily departure from FRA at 15:50

PMI (Palma de Mallorca, Spain): one daily departure from FRA at 06:55

FAO (Faro, Portugal): one daily departure from FRA at 15:00
