FUJIFILM Corporation announced that a favorable decision it received earlier this year from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in a patent infringement case brought by Digitech Image Technologies, LLC has become final.

Digitech, a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corporation, sued Fujifilm on October 1, 2012 in the United States District Court for the Central District of California alleging that Fujifilm's digital cameras infringed a U.S. patent owned by Digitech. On July 31, 2013, the District Court granted Fujifilm's Motion for Summary Judgment and found the asserted claims of the patent invalid under § 101 of the U.S. Patent Statute, because those claims are not directed to patent-eligible subject matter..

On July 11, 2014, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals issued a unanimous decision that affirmed the District Court's Summary Judgment of patent invalidity. And earlier this week, the time for Digitech to petition the Supreme Court to review the case expired, thus making final the lower courts' invalidity rulings and ending the case with a complete victory for Fujifilm.

Fujifilm has a policy of respecting intellectual property rights and considering those rights in developing and selling products. At the same time, Fujifilm is committed to standing firm against patent owners who pursue litigation based on overly broad interpretations of their intellectual property rights or claims of infringement that lack merit.

Fujifilm was represented in this case by attorneys Christopher Broderick of the Los Angeles office, Steven Routh and Sten Jensen of the Washington D.C. office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.
