Fujitsu : and FPT to Collaborate on IT-Based Agricultural Project in Vietnam

Fujitsu Limited and FPT Corporation today announced that they will cooperate to field trial Fujitsu's food and agricultural cloud service in Vietnam. The aim of this partnership is to support restructuring in Vietnam's agricultural sector so as to make the country a world-class agricultural producer based on innovative technologies. Fujitsu provides this service in Japan and other countries to help farmers raise crop quality and productivity, and at the same time to cut costs.

Under the agreement, Fujitsu and FPT will carry out this one-year trial project, from 2015 to 2016. Fujitsu will provide cloud services, equipment, and expertise, and as Vietnam's leading ICT company, FPT will facilitate the spread of Information technology in the country's agricultural sector. Specifically, Fujitsu will deploy a greenhouse IT solution in Hanoi to cultivate crops during the trial period. The greenhouse will be a showcase to demonstrate Fujitsu's agricultural technology to partners and government authorities in Vietnam and Japan who are interested in developing an agricultural sector in Vietnam that utilizes IT.

Offered by Fujitsu from 2012 and used by numerous companies and organizations globally, this innovative food and agriculture cloud service uses information and communication technology to contribute to stable production volumes and higher product quality, which would otherwise depend on the expert judgment of farmers.

Vietnam has specific advantages in agricultural development. In terms of natural resources, the country has more than nine million hectares of agricultural land, including the two fertile deltas of Cuu Long and Red River, world-renown for their abundant rice harvests. There is also the 3,200 kilometer coast line and other large water resources that make excellent conditions for the further development of the country's seafood industry.

Through this field trial, Fujitsu and FPT aim to increase awareness, as well as to commercialize, Fujitsu's agricultural technology in the Vietnamese market.
