Fujitsu : Signs Women's Empowerment Principles Statement, Accelerates Diversity Promotion Efforts

Tokyo, September 08, 2017

Fujitsu Limited today announced that as the representative of the Fujitsu Group it has affirmed its commitment to the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs), laid out by the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and UN Women (United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women), and has signed a statement of conduct based on the WEPs.

The Fujitsu Group works to empower women through its diversity promotion activities. By signing on to these principles, the Fujitsu Group strives to make clear its stance on encouraging the active participation of women and accelerate diversity promotion activities by using the WEPs as a global policy on gender equality which can be shared across the entire Fujitsu Group.

About the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs)

Created in 2010 by the UNGC and UN Women, the WEPs aim to deepen the understanding of the human rights of women by promoting their empowerment, which in turn leads to the sustainable development of companies and the society. The WEPs consist of the following seven principles, offering a practical roadmap for companies to evaluate and analyze their practices, standards, and activities.

  1. Establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality
  2. Treat all women and men fairly at work - respect and support human rights and nondiscrimination
  3. Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all women and men workers
  4. Promote education, training and professional development for women
  5. Implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women
  6. Promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy
  7. Measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality

About Fujitsu's Initiatives Promoting the Active Participation of Women

  • Fujitsu established its Diversity Promotion Office in 2008, and endeavors to create workplaces where people can feel energized, create new value, and achieve prosperous coexistence with society, under the theme of 'Diversity-Driven Innovation.'
  • Since fiscal 2011, promoting the active participation of women has been an immediate priority of the Diversity Promotion Office. By offering career support for various job levels, such as the women's leadership development program for female manager candidates and career-building support seminars for women from new hires to long-term employees, Fujitsu has continued to produce female leaders.
  • Beyond these measures, Fujitsu seeks to instill a mindset in management and transform work styles to create a more comfortable work environment for women.
