G4S and the UK's Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have agreed that the G4S-managed Medway Secure Training Centre (STC) in Kent, for young people on remand or sentenced to custody, will be transferred to the management of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS)

Peter Neden, G4S Regional President UK & Ireland said:

'We have worked closely with the Ministry of Justice to agree and plan the transfer of Medway Secure Training Centre to National Offender Management Service (NOMS). We will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Justice and NOMS to ensure a smooth transition which we expect to complete before the end of July 2016.'

Notes to editors

G4S was due to begin its new five-year agreement to manage the centre on May 1, 2016. This was put on hold by the MoJ at the beginning of April following the company's decision to sell its children's services business and to allow the Improvement Board to complete its work.
