Gamesa and IndustriALL Global Union sign a global CSR agreement
  • It is the first global agreement guaranteeing the protection of labour rights in the renewable energy sector.
  • The document was signed by company representatives, the nationwide federations of Spanish union UGT, FITAG and MCA, and the manufacturing federation of CCOO and by the global union federation, giving it its international scope.

Gamesa and IndustriALL Global Union today signed a landmark Global CSR Agreement which formally enshrines the pledge to tighten its performance along social, labour and environmental dimensions embodied by the company's Corporate Social Responsibility policy and the Code of Conduct.

This agreement - the first of its class in the renewable energy sector - was signed by José Antonio Cortajarena and Javier Treviño, Chief Corporate Officer and Director of Human Resources at Gamesa, respectively, and by the General Secretary of IndustriALL Global Union, Jyrki Raina, and the General Secretaries of Industry of unions CCOO, MCA-UGT and FITAG-UGT, Agustín Martín, Carlos Romero and Antonio Deusa, respectively. The signing ceremony was also attended by Joaquín Nieto, director of the Spanish International Labour Organization (ILO) office.

One of the agreement's novel aspects is the fact that Gamesa will oversee and supervise the agreement together with its workers' representatives (UGT and CCOO). To this end it will set up a coordination and oversight body that will meet regularly and issue a report every two years on the level of application of the agreement with a view to analysing potential updates.

"This agreement evidences the continual and two-way dialogue that exists between Gamesa and its unions. It also reinforces the conduct and ethical guidelines embodied by our general policies and our Code of Conduct and echoes the Group's corporate culture and values", underscored Cortajarena.
