Coinciding with World Day of Excellence, Gamesa for a second consecutive year is pleased to acknowledge best practices in health and safety, quality control and the environment at its manufacturing plants, wind farms, operation and maintenance (O&M) services business and suppliers.
Gamesa's factory in Cuenca, which makes blade roots used in the G5X, G8X and G9X turbines, is the winner of the Manufacturing Centre award. The plant, staffed by 63 employees, this year marks more than four years with no workplace accidents, for a total of 1,553 accident-free days. What's more, as of September 2011 the facility had reduced its number of defects in manufactured components by 45% across all of its models, thanks to the RFT campaign (Right First Time - parts built right the first time).
In the O&M Services category, the award goes to the western Andalusia Operation and Maintenance (CRO) services centre in Torremolinos. The facility performs maintenance services for a total of 1,053 MW of Andalusian wind farm assets owned by leading Spanish and international power companies.
The awards' global reach is exemplified this year by the Wind Farm Construction category, with the prize awarded to the 60-MW Suvorovo wind farm project, which Gamesa built in Bulgaria. A team overseen by Iker Díaz (Project Manager) built the project, while Raúl Benavente managed erection and installation of the site's 30 G90-2.0 MW turbines.
Gamesa this year highlights its suppliers' efforts to achieve excellence, awarding a prize to Sakana, which has supplied Gamesa with turbine components (rotor hubs, axels, support frames, etc.) since 1997. Sakana is a Navarre-based cooperative founded in 1975 and specialising in casting grey and ductile iron components ranging in size from 3 tonnes to 30 tonnes.
For the fifth consecutive year, Gamesa has celebrated the World Day for Excellence under the motto "Our commitment benefits everyone", pointing out that maintaining its position as a market leader also requires a stringent, far-reaching policy on safety and health, quality and the environment that fosters a safe workplace, rewards a job well done and is in keeping with the protection of our natural environment.
