• To date, the distribution company has already invested 1.2 million euros to develop the network. In 2015, it will continue building infrastructure to reach a scheduled investment of 1.7 million euros.

Earlier today, the Mayor of Castelló d'Empúries, Xavier M. Sanllehí, the Gas Natural Distribución Delegate for Girona, Joan Arimany, and the Gas Natural Distribución Delegate for New Towns and Infrastructure in the East and Balearic Islands, Robert Gauxax, opened the gas supply to the municipality and urban centre of Empuriabrava at an event that was also attended by local business leaders and authorities.

Through its distribution company Gas Natural Distribución, GAS NATURAL FENOSA has now invested 1.2 million euros in bringing this supply to the municipality. The power company has now finished the gasification project, for which a network of 9.3 kilometres and a liquefied natural gas plant (LNG) were built.

This will enable 5,900 homes to receive a natural gas supply service in the first year. The first homes and commercial establishments in Empuriabrava have had a gas supply since the end of last year.

Over the course of 2015, the company will continue to make investments - up to the scheduled 1.7 million euros - to extend the network and offer this supply to as many homes as possible. There are currently 13,500 potential customers in and around Empuriabrava.

The leading power company in Catalonia

The power company distributes natural gas to 360 municipalities in Catalonia. Thanks to an investment of nearly 67 million euros, it added 40,889 new supply points in Catalonia in 2013, bringing the total to over 2.16 million. The penetration rate (supply points divided by the total number of households in Catalonia) stands at 54% - higher than the 27% average for Spain as a whole - thanks to the investments by the company over the last 20 years, in which time it has invested 1.4 billion euros to expand and improve its gas distribution business.

Through its distribution company, GAS NATURAL FENOSA invested 7.6 million euros throughout Girona during the course of 2013. These investments were mainly allocated to building new networks, as well as the renovation and improvement of existing infrastructure.
