Through its distribution company Gas Natural Distribución, GAS NATURAL FENOSA has invested over 770,000 euros to start supplying gas to La Jonquera (Girona). The power company has converted the old liquid petroleum gas (LPG) network of over 9 kilometres to transport natural gas, has built a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant to supply the town and plans to expand the current network by 1.5 kilometres.

The first residents of the town have been enjoying a natural gas service for a week now.

This work by the distribution company will enable 1,376 potential customers to benefit from the advantages of natural gas.

The leading energy company in Catalonia

The power company distributes natural gas to 360 municipalities in Catalonia. Thanks to an investment of nearly 67 million euros, it added 40,889 new supply points in Catalonia in 2013, bringing the total to over 2.16 million. The penetration rate (supply points divided by the total number of households in Catalonia) stands at 54%, which is above the 27% average for Spain. This figure is due to the company's investment efforts over the last 20 years, during which time it has invested 1.4 billion euros to increase and improve its gas distribution business.

GAS NATURAL FENOSA invested around 7.6 million euros in Girona during 2013 through its distribution company. These investments were mainly allocated to building new networks and improving the existing one to ensure supply security in areas where the service already exists, and to cover demand efficiently. The company currently supplies natural gas to 75 municipalities in the province of Girona, including seven administrative capitals.
