• The exercises focused on how to respond to oil spills that occur in reservoirs or rivers.

Over 60 people took part in the practical exercises organised by the UME (Spanish Military Emergency Unit or Unidad Militar de Emergencias) at hydro-power facilities operated by GAS NATURAL FENOSA in Buendía (Cuenca) and on the River Tagus near Sacedón (Guadalajara).

Over the course of one week and within the framework of the UME Practical Schools on Technological Risks, various representatives from the power company demonstrated the equipment it has to deal with such situations and took part in the simulations conducted.

The Buendía Reservoir (Cuenca) and the River Tagus downstream from the Entrepeñas power station (Guadalajara) were the facilities chosen for the practical exercises, in which oil spills in water were simulated. The participating teams took part in the simulation of spills, the deployment of containment booms, the surrounding, skimming and removal of pollution, and the defence of sensitive locations, among other things.
