• This initiative forms part of the Corporate Environmental Volunteering Programme launched by the power company and is aimed at encouraging a positive attitude to environmental conservation among its employees.
  • The action, organised by the Global Nature Foundation in collaboration with local partner Acciónatura, is a practical example of collaboration between a company and two nature conservation organisations.

This weekend over 20 volunteers, GAS NATURAL FENOSA employees and their families, have taken part in various environmental improvement and conservation activities in the Serralada de Marina Park, in the province of Barcelona. This event, organised by the Global Nature Foundation in collaboration with Acciónatura, is part of the power company's Corporate Environmental Volunteering Programme.

The volunteers have helped to protect the native biodiversity by eliminating exotic species such as Cape ivy (Senecio angulatus) or ailanthus (Ailanthus altissima). This second species is an ornamental tree included in the Spanish Catalogue of Invasive Exotic Species and which alters Mediterranean habitats, where it is widespread.

After removing these species, flora native to area were planted to support the conservation of the local ecosystems. The species planted include the stone pine (Pinus pinea), the European olive tree (Olea europea sylvestris), the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua) and mastic (Pistacea lentiscus). The activities were completed by cleaning and collecting waste in the area. Finally, they helped to clear the area surrounding the organic garden located in the park, next to the Monastery of Sant Jeroni de la Murtra, in order to extend the area of this social garden.

The activities carried out by the volunteers were coordinated locally by Acciónatura in collaboration with the park management body, so that the actions remained in line with the real needs of the area and how it is managed. Global Nature Foundation and Acciónatura, which are both part of the Association of Foundations for the Conservation of Nature (AFN), have been joining forces in their projects and projection for some time, and also in collaboration with GAS NATURAL FENOSA, for example in the LIFE 'La Mancha Wetlands' project.

Commitment to the environment and our natural surroundings

GAS NATURAL FENOSA maintains a firm commitment to society and for many years has adopted a corporate culture of environmental respect and awareness and environmental improvement, which it continually conveys to its employees, customers, suppliers and society in general.

In this context, the company maintains a commitment to conserving biodiversity in all its businesses and activities, and has defined an environmental sustainability strategy based on these three targets: the minimisation of impacts on ecosystems; the conservation of natural assets; and the mitigation of global warming.

Global Nature Foundation

For over 20 years, the Global Nature Foundation has been working on the conservation of spaces and species, as well as the restoration of degraded ecosystems, with a particular focus on wetland areas. Over the last two decades, the foundation has worked with public and private entities to develop activities aimed at conserving biodiversity, both in Spain and within the framework of development aid projects.

As a charitable educational foundation, all its projects include environmental awareness activities such as courses, workshops and corporate volunteering programmes in the field.

Acciónatura

Acciónatura has been working since 1997 to conserve natural heritage and biodiversity by protecting, improving and restoring natural ecosystems, as well as raising public awareness and involvement.
