• This initiative is part of a corporate environmental volunteering programme launched by the power company with a view to encouraging a positive attitude towards environmental conservation in its employees.

Last weekend around 30 volunteers, including GAS NATURAL FENOSA employees and their family members, participated in a volunteering day organised by the Global Nature Foundation in collaboration with Acciónatura and the Viladecans City Council (Barcelona). the day was spend restoring and adapting a former beachfront campground in Delta del Llobregat in order to help preserve this natural space.

The Delta del Llobregat is a broad plain between the Garraf massif and Montjuic and contains one of Catalonia's largest wetlands. It has great naturalistic value and includes 20 natural habitats of European Interest, three of which are a priority for the European Union.

Various tasks were planned to help preserve this natural space: cleaning the space, removing exotic species, and a symbolic planting of stone pine (Pinus pinea) and mastic (Pistacea lentiscus) trees with the youngest members of the group. Specifically, it involved the removal of yucca plants, an alien species native to America, in order to create new space to regenerate local vegetation including stone pine (Pinus pinea), Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) and several orchid species.

Additionally, attendees has the chance to take part in a marine biodiversity activity led by the Submón NGO using shells. They learned to differentiate shells and interpret the local marine life based on natural elements on the beach.

Thus, the activities were focused not only on improving the environment but also on raising volunteers' awareness and knowledge of the importance of preserving terrestrial and marine habitats.
