The first natural gas recipients in the town of Santa Comba will be able to enjoy the benefits brought by this energy source before the end of the year.

The Representative for New Towns Northern Region of Gas Natural Distribución, Arsenio Talavera, presented a gasification project to the residents of Santa Comba that, over the coming years, will enable some 1,200 local homes, businesses and industries to enjoy the benefits brought by this energy source. Gas Natural Galicia - the distribution subsidiary of the power company in Galicia - will invest 1.33 billion euros in the municipality of Santa Combo to build 7.5 kilometres of distribution network and offer a natural gas supply by the end of the year.

At the presentation event, Arsenio Talavera explained the pipe laying stages being worked on in Santa Comba, as well as the steps to be taken by those interested in requesting a natural gas supply for their home, business or industry. Furthermore, the Representative for New Towns spoke about the uses and advantages of natural gas - the most competitive energy from an economic perspective, and the most efficient and eco-friendly from an environmental perspective. The Gas Natural energy comparison tool - El Ahorrador [The Saver] - was highlighted in this regard, which calculates the amount that a household could save on its energy bill. Hence, natural gas represents a saving of between 15 and 23% when compared with distributed LPG and 35% when compared with diesel (for domestic use and including fixed charges).

Santa Comba gasification project

The supply of natural gas to Santa Comba will take place via a liquefied natural gas satellite plant (LNG), from where the distribution network will carry natural gas to the urban centre of the municipality. The LNG plant will have a storage capacity of 30 cubic metres and will require an investment of 190,000 euros.

During the first stage of gasification in Santa Comba (currently under way), pipes will be laid along the main roads in the town. This means that 80% of local homes and businesses will have access to natural gas.

Gas Natural operations in Galicia

Gas Natural Galicia - the GAS NATURAL FENOSA distribution company in this autonomous region - has a distribution network of more than 3,000 kilometres and almost 240,000 supply points in 66 municipalities of Galicia where it distributes natural gas, meaning that 65% of the population in Galicia already has access to this source of energy.

The penetration rate (supply points divided by the total number of dwellings in Galicia) is 30%, thanks to the company's investment effort over the last 15 years, during which time it has invested 370 million euros in increasing and improving its natural gas distribution business.
