• GAS NATURAL FENOSA will invest approximately nine million euros in the first five years of the permit.

The Mexican Energy Regulation Commission (Spanish acronym: CRE) awarded the natural gas distribution permit for the municipalities of Culiacán, Mazatlán, Elota and Navolato, in the State of Sinaloa, to GAS NATURAL FENOSA for a concession period of 30 years, which may be extended - a potential market of close to 500,000 customers.

The company will invest approximately nine million euros (150 million Mexican Pesos) in the first five years of the permit to expand the natural gas distribution network in the new municipalities.

The new distribution zone, referred to by the CRE as the Sinaloa Geographic Zone, is adjacent to the area recently awarded to GAS NATURAL FENOSA in the municipalities of Ahome, Choix, El Fuerte, Guasave and Salvador Alvarado, in the same State. This decision will enable efficient gas distribution while also creating a highly competitive region in terms of energy availability.

Through Gas Natural México, GAS NATURAL FENOSA will build up the distribution system and will assume responsibility for the reception, piping and delivery of natural gas along 680 kilometres of gas pipelines over the course of the concession period.

Sinaloa is the most important agricultural state in Mexico, has the second-largest fishing fleet in the country and boasts a rich logistics platform based on such key infrastructure as the Durango-Mazatlán Motorway and its Pacific sea ports, which provide a gateway to the dynamic markets in Asia.

Increased presence in the North American country

Allocation of this new distribution zone in Mexico represents a new milestone for operations by GAS NATURAL FENOSA in the North American country and reinforces its commitment to development in Mexico and quality of life for its citizens.

GAS NATURAL FENOSA is the leading natural gas distributor in Mexico, where it began operating 15 years ago. These new distribution zones in Mexico join the seven where the company already operates in the country to serve almost 1.4 million customers in 11 states via a network that covers more than 18,000 kilometres.

In addition, the multinational power company operates four combined cycle power plants in Mexico with a power generation capacity of over 2,000 MW and a wind farm with a capacity of 234 MW.
