Over the past three months more than 120 GAS NATURAL FENOSA employees and their families, have volunteered in several environmental conservation activities in protected areas of Castile-La Mancha and Catalonia. The great natural value of the selected enclaves means this restoration work is particularly important, and makes other biodiversity-related activities possible.

In the case of Castile-La Mancha, they planted over 900 examples of local species, such as acelguilla salada, esparto grass, holm oak and blackthorn, in the wetlands of La Mancha Húmeda, a protected area included in the Natura 2000 Network and Biosphere Reserve. The volunteers also went birdwatching at the observatories of the Peña Hueca and Laguna Larga lagoons in Villacañas and contributed to the Virtual Biodiversity programme, a public platform that gathers online data on biodiversity using georeferenced digital photos.

In Catalonia the company organised activities in the Garraf Natural Park (Barcelona), including planting holm oaks and an "experiencing biodiversity" programme where several ornithologists accompanied the volunteers on a journey into the world of birds, collecting data, ringing birds, etc.

The Serralada de Marina Natural Park (Badalona) also benefited from this volunteer programme. As well as planting protected species such as thatching grass the volunteers took a tour of an organic vegetable garden and discussed the importance of conserving biodiversity, including agricultural diversity, through traditional economic activities.

Commitment to the environment and our natural surroundings

GAS NATURAL FENOSA maintains a firm commitment to society and has for many years adopted a corporate culture of respect for and awareness of the environment and environmental improvement, which it continually conveys to its employees, customers, suppliers and society in general.

Along these lines, the company incorporates its commitment to preserving biodiversity in all its businesses and activities, and has defined an environmental sustainability strategy based on these three targets: minimising impact on ecosystems, conserving natural assets, and mitigating global warning.

The company publishes the Informe de Biodiversidad (Biodiversity Report), with best practices in the study and conservation of the environment, environmental education and awareness.

Global Nature Foundation

For over 20 years, the Global Nature Foundation has been working on the conservation of spaces and species, as well as on the restoration of degraded ecosystems, with particular focus on wetland areas. Over the last two decades, the foundation has worked with public and private entities to develop activities aimed at conserving biodiversity, both in Spain and within the framework of development aid projects.

As a charitable education foundation, all its projects include environmental awareness elements, in the form of courses, workshops and corporate volunteer programmes on the site.
