The Director General for Fire Prevention, Protection and Rescue of the Regional Affairs Department of the Regional Government of Catalonia, Juli Gendrau, the Director of the Public Safety Institute of Catalonia, Annabel Marcos, the Director of Combined Cycle Plants of GAS NATURAL FENOSA, Vicente Gil, and the Director of Technical Management of the System of Gas Natural Distribución, Raül Font, signed a partnership agreement earlier today on training in the field of technological risks.

The agreement establishes improvements to the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for safely tackling the risks or emergencies at natural gas and electricity generation facilities.

Under this agreement, the Fire Service and Civilian Protection School of Catalonia, GAS NATURAL FENOSA and its subsidiary Gas Natural Distribución will jointly design training courses and practical exercises to be undertaken by the Fire Service of the Regional Government of Catalonia and the technical, safety and emergency personnel of GAS NATURAL FENOSA and Gas Natural Distribución.

Temporary use of facilities

Within the framework of this agreement, GAS NATURAL FENOSA and its subsidiary Gas Natural Distribución will offer a number of its facilities to the Fire Service of the Regional Government of Catalonia, the Special Action Service (GRAE) and students at the Fire Service and Civilian Protection School of Catalonia for the development of practical exercises and training sessions on incidents involving natural gas leaks and fires. They will also grant the use of their facilities for the completion of high-altitude rescue simulations and similar exercises.

Actions by the Regional Affairs Department

Through the Directorate-General of Fire Prevention, Protection and Rescue, the Regional Affairs Department of the Regional Government of Catalonia will provide technical consultancy on the action protocols in place at the facilities of GAS NATURAL FENOSA and Gas Natural Distribución in Catalonia, such as the combined cycle power plants of Sant Adrià de Besós and Puerto de Barcelona. Furthermore, it will provide advice on the materials and working methods adopted by the fire and rescue teams at the various facilities owned by the power company.

Operational coordination systems will also be established to tackle joint actions between the GRAE Fire Service (Special Action Service) and the rescue teams of GAS NATURAL FENOSA and Gas Natural Distribución, such as participation in exercises or simulations at unique facilities.

In addition, the Public Safety Institute of Catalonia undertakes to work with the Corporate University of GAS NATURAL FENOSA on organising mixed working groups to design the training courses provided for by this agreement and will provide guidelines to the training personnel of the power company regarding rescue actions and practical exercises.
