Gas Natural SDG : Fenosa receives Best European Energy Project Award for the renewal of public lighting in Paterna

• The award was presented by the Association of Energy Engineers as part of the Regional Awards Programme, which recognises the work of people, agencies and corporations engaged in the field of energy.

The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) presented the Best Innovative Project in Energy Management Award to the renewal of public lighting in the town of Paterna (Valencia), carried out by the joint venture Alumbrado Paterna (Gas Natural Servicios and Germanía).

Earlier today, representatives from GAS NATURAL FENOSA shared this important international recognition with the Town Council of Paterna and thanked the local authority for its collaboration on implementing the project.

Every year, the Regional Awards Programme recognises the work of people, agencies and corporations engaged in the field of energy. The project in Paterna consisted of renewing 14,000 light sources (40% of them with LED technology), which has led to a saving of over 65% in the energy consumed by public lighting in the town. Furthermore, the new energy management system includes a remote management tool that reads data in real time from all the control centres and enables adjustment of switch-on and switch-off times, among other things.

Implementation of this project has led to an improvement in the energy consumption ratio for public lighting in the town, falling from 150 kWh/year per inhabitant to 53 kWh/year per inhabitant. This is far below the Spanish average of 115 kWh/year per inhabitant.

For some months now, Gas Natural Comercializadora (a subsidiary of GAS NATURAL FENOSA) has also been supplying the town in Valencia with 100% renewable electricity for its public lighting. The approximate demand amounts to 3,500 MWh per year.

Association of Energy Engineers (AEE)

The AEE, which operates in 90 countries, is the most highly recognised global association of energy-specialised industrial engineers among professionals in the sector. Set up in 1977 in the United States, it is the leading body for the certification of energy professionals and has over 17,000 certified engineers around the world.
