• Today, the town of Ribadeo was connected to the A Mariña Lucense gas pipeline. The company has invested over 30 million euros in the pipeline, which will provide more than 55,000 inhabitants, as well as local business and industry, with access to natural gas.
  • Gas Natural Galicia will offer the natural gas supply to more than 3,000 homes, industries and businesses in Ribadeo.

Earlier today, the Councillor of Economy, Employment and Industry of the Galicia Regional Government Francisco Conde, the Mayor of the Concello de Ribadeo Fernando Suárez, and the GAS NATURAL FENOSA Director General of Regulated Businesses Antoni Peris symbolically opened the valve connecting the town of Ribadeo to the Ribadeo-Viveiro primary transport branch, which will bring the natural gas supply to the municipality.

The event was also attended by GAS NATURAL FENOSA General Manager in Galicia Manuel Fernández, Director of the Gas Distribution Business in Spain Nuria Rodríguez, Director of Gas Distribution in the northern region Juan Antonio Pazos, and Director General of Gas Natural Galicia Raquel Vallejo.

Gas Natural Galicia plans to invest around six million euros in the Ribadeo project, of which 4.5 million have already been earmarked. The goal is to bring a supply of natural gas to Ribadeo and offer service to more than 3,000 homes, industries and businesses in the city centre.

Last summer, the energy company purchased the existing propane distribution networks in Ribadeo and integrated them into the municipality's gasification project. The agreement removed the need for almost 17 kilometres of pipe-laying road works, thus significantly reducing the impact caused to the day-to-day life of residents.

Presence in A Mariña Lucense and in Galicia

The power company allocated 30 million euros to building the Ribadeo-Viveiro primary transport branch (opened in February 2015), an infrastructure project that will provide access to natural gas to over 55,000 inhabitants in the region, as well as local businesses and industries. This will lead to a significant improvement in domestic household economies, as well as the competitiveness of local industry and business.

Gas Natural Galicia currently distributes to five municipalities in A Mariña Lucense (Cervo, Barreiros, Viveiro, Xove and Ribadeo) and in coming weeks it will begin projects in Barreiros and Cervo to install their final connection to the A Mariña gas pipeline. It also plans to develop gasification projects in Foz and Burela in order to bring natural gas service to its inhabitants throughout this year.

Gas Natural Galicia has a distribution network of nearly 3,400 kilometres and over 263,000 supply points in the 73 municipalities where it distributes natural gas, meaning that 68% of the population of Galicia already has access to this energy source.
