The Gas Natural Fenosa Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) is announcing four new artist retreats - two international and two local - that will take place between 4 April and 31 May 2016. Through their Artist Retreats Programme 2016, MAC aims to promote research and artistic creation, facilitate local artistic creation, help promote artists, and foster international mobility and exchanges involving artists and other cultural professionals.

MAC offers financial assistance for the two month duration of the retreats, including travel expenses, as well as a fully equipped work space in the museum and partial living expenses.

The local retreats are aimed at artists and professionals from any discipline as well as cultural professionals (cultural agents, curators, cultural mediators, etc.) who are under 45, living in Galicia and who wish to develop an artistic research project in the MAC headquarters in A Coruña.

The international retreats are aimed at artists and professionals from any discipline as well as cultural professionals (cultural agents, curators, cultural mediators, etc.) of any nationality, who are under 45 and not resident in Galicia and who wish to undertake an artistic research project in the MAC headquarters in A Coruña.

International mobility for artists: grants and retreats

The Artist Retreats Programme represents another step forward in MAC's commitment to artistic creation and research and the international mobility of artists and cultural professionals. This initiative aims to promote artistic creation by providing artists with facilities and resources to form and develop specific programmes in optimum conditions, promoting new artistic values and facilitating cultural coexistence between artists of different nationalities. Between its launch and autumn 2015, the MAC Artist Retreats Programme has welcomed the participation of 40 local and international artists.
