• The Spanish power company has already finished building the installations, which are ready to start distributing natural gas in Arequipa this year.

President of the Republic of Peru Pedro Pablo Kuczynski visited the new GAS NATURAL FENOSA installations in Arequipa (Peru) yesterday to receive a tour of the infrastructure that will soon enable the start of natural gas distribution. During his visit of the new regasification plant and pipe-laying works for the natural gas network, the Peruvian President stressed that 'the roll-out of natural gas in southern Peru is a reality' thanks to the project led by this power company.

In turn, GAS NATURAL FENOSA Country Manager in Peru José María Margalef said that the company 'is meeting its commitments with the Peruvian State authorities and is ready to distribute natural gas to the first residential, commercial and industrial customers in the country.'

In 2013 GAS NATURAL FENOSA was awarded the Peruvian State tender to extend natural gas services to four cities in the south-west of the country (Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna and Ilo), for which the company plans to invest approximately 60 million dollars before 2020. This year the company expects to have its first 12,000 customers in the four cities, supplying approximately 400 businesses and 14 industries.

Leading operator in Latin America

GAS NATURAL FENOSA has maintained a commitment to Latin America since 1992. The power company is one of the leading natural gas distributors and the largest integrated energy operator in the region. As of the close of Q3 2016, the EBITDA from Latin American operations stood in excess of 1.2 billion euros.

The multinational company is engaged in gas distribution operations in Argentina,Brazil and now Peru; distribution activities in the electricity and gas market in Colombia; electricity generation and gas distribution in Mexico; and electricity distribution in Panama, where it also has power stations and electricity distribution assets. It is engaged in energy generation in Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, and has electricity generation assets and operates a regasification plant in Puerto Rico. Furthermore, it is engaged in electricity transport and distribution, gas distribution and electricity generation and NG/LNG infrastructure projects in Chile.
