• The energy company, in partnership with the Seat car manufacturer, delivers the first natural gas vehicle to the Directorate-General of the Civil Guard. This is a result of the current agreement between Gas Natural and the public safety institution to improve environmental performance and energy efficiency.

Gas Natural Director of Market Management Manuel Gil and SEAT España Fleets Director Antonio Calvo today handed over the first vehicle to use compressed natural gas to Director General of the Civil Guard Arsenio Fernández de Mesa; the vehicle will be added to the Civil Guard's fleet.

The delivery of this vehicle, a SEAT León TGI, is the result of a partnership agreement signed by Gas Natural and the Civil Guard last October. The agreement includes initiatives such as the conducting of studies to improve the efficiency of the Directorate-General of the Civil Guard's buildings and installations, as well as analysing and incorporating the use of natural gas into its fleet of land and sea vehicles in order to improve its environmental performance and efficiency.

Advantages of natural gas as a fuel

Vehicular natural gas is a more economical and sustainable alternative to traditional fuels. The use of natural gas as a fuel for transport contributes to improved air quality, as it drastically reduces atmospheric emissions, with 85% less nitrogen oxide emissions, no emissions of suspended particles, and up to 30% less emissions of CO, the main greenhouse gas.

From the economic standpoint, natural gas is more economical than traditional fuels (petrol and diesel), with up to 50% cost savings per kilometre travelled.
