The Arc Cup 2017 International Welding Competition took place in Shanghai, China, as part of the 70 General Assembly and International Conference of the International Institute of Welding. The competitive event involved 248 professionals from 12 countries.

The Russian team comprised 16 welders who had previously won awards at the All-Russian Best Welder Competition, including Gazprom Dobycha Nadym's Sergey Silantyev, winner of the Gazprom's Best Welder contest. The team competed in five major categories: Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Oxygen Fuel Arc Welding, and Finished-Product Arc Welding.

Russia's team took first place in the event, with Sergey Silantyev declared the winner in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, the most prestigious category in the competition.

'This victory is the pinnacle of my professional career. It is as much of an enormous responsibility as it is an honor to represent my country and my company at a competition of this level,' said Sergey Silantyev.
