Following the uprising of August 19, Paris was finally liberated 6 days later thanks to the combined efforts of the Resistance, the people of Paris and the Second Armored Division led by General Leclerc with support from the US 4th Infantry Division. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of its liberation, the Paris city authority has organized a series of commemorative events in the capital. The highpoint of the celebrations was a video-mapping show projected in the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville.

This audiovisual spectacular used archive images and was supported by choreographed dance sequences, percussion and an enormous choir of children and the massed choirs of the French armed services. The entire event was orchestrated by GDF SUEZ subsidiary company ETC in partnership with the events and communications agency Auditoire. ETC already has an impressive track record of creating similar events in historic buildings, such as the Hospices de Beaune, the Papal Palace in Avignon and Rouen Cathedral.
