As part of helping the regions make the energy transition, GDF SUEZ has underlined its commitment at local level with the signature on July 3rd this year of an agreement with the Fédération des Entreprises Publiques Locales.

Towns, cities and local authorities have an increasing need for energy, and especially clean, positive energy that is, in more and more cases, generated locally. Jean-Léonce Dupont, Chairman of the Fédération des Entreprises Publiques Locales, has highlighted «the obligation of efficiency», and particularly energy efficiency, faced by local authorities.

This obligation to deliver energy efficiency goes hand-in-hand with a fundamental paradigm shift in energy: the progressive decentralization of generation. Patrick Jarry, Mayor of Nanterre and Chairman of the Urban Authority for Le Mont Valérien, pointed up «the transition from extremely centralized energy generation to local generation as part of a national network».

GDF SUEZ is a preferred partner for local authorities engaged in this transition. In practical terms, moving from a centralized system to a multimodal energy generation, distribution and network management package is central to the positioning of the Group, and the reason for the partnership between GDF SUEZ and the Fédération des Entreprises Publiques Locales.

Crucial to public energy services, the expertise of the Group is crystallized in the Terr'Innove roadmap, which contains a set of solutions to improve energy efficiency, decentralized energy generation, flow management and global mobility at regional level.

All those present at the agreement signing ceremony were keen to stress the importance of joint action by all regional energy transition stakeholders - local authorities, local publicly-owned companies and GDF SUEZ - to succeed in delivering this transition. Thanks to their joint effort, the legislative framework has very recently been updated and optimized.

Delighted to sign this agreement, which effectively recognizes the role played by GDF SUEZ in modernizing the legislation governing the role of local authorities, GDF SUEZ Group Chairman Gérard Mestrallet expressed his wish to continue the process by supporting authorities at local level, and helping them to make their own energy transition a reality.
