Gecina wins France GBC Environmental Reporting award in the Biodiversity category

These environmental reporting awards, organized by the association France GBC and given out to mark the launch of Green Building Week, recognize operators from the real estate industry for their exemplary approach to CSR.

Jean-Pierre Sicard, Novethic's president and panel member, gave the Environmental Reporting award in the Biodiversity category to Bernard Michel, Gecina's Chairman.
For Bernard Michel: "The integration of biodiversity within our real estate strategy illustrates our commitment to developing a responsible portfolio. This is driving us to rethink the management and design of our buildings, delivering benefits for urban wildlife and flora, as well as the well- being of our tenant customers. This also means reflecting and thinking on the scale of a whole district and city to integrate our buildings within their direct environment. Above all, this also means gaining awareness of how our activities are dependent on non-renewable raw materials and natural resources. This is what makes biodiversity such a complex and fascinating subject".
Gecina shares its commitments with other stakeholders from the real estate and urban development fields. Indeed, the Group is a founding member of the U2B club for urban development, building and biodiversity, as well as the international biodiversity and real estate council (CIBI), which is behind the dedicated BiodiverCity label for the inclusion of urban biodiversity-related issues in the real estate industry. Gecina's support for France's national biodiversity strategy has been praised by the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy.
Gecina's commitment also stands out through the actions taken by its company foundation, which is focused in particular on protecting biodiversity, supporting a number of projects led by organizations such as the French national forestry office (ONF), the coastal heritage association (Conservatoire du Littoral) and the association for the protection of birds (LPO).
Lastly, biodiversity is also the focus for one of the three theme-based conferences organized this year by Gecina as part of Green Building Week:
- "Moving towards an observatory for intangible value?" (September 23, 2014 at Gecina's headquarters),
- "Building and biodiversity: from concepts to developments" (September 24, 2014 at the
Horizons building)
- "Putting in place a system for measuring energy performance in the current portfolio:
feedback from the field" (September 26, 2014 at Gecina's headquarters).
