Gecina is opening up its portfolio to an innovative initiative supporting urban farming and greening by entrusting two of its Paris sites, representing almost 8,500 sq.m of green spaces at the heart of the 15th arrondissement, to the 'Parisculteurs' call for projects.

On Thursday April 14, the City of Paris announced the 47 addresses selected (walls, roofs, spaces at the bottom of buildings, etc.) for the 'Parisculteurs' call for project proposals. For Pénélope Komitès, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of green spaces, nature and biodiversity: 'The Parisculteurs call for projects will act as a catalyst, a driving force, that will encourage both public and private operators to carry out greening initiatives. The city is undergoing a metamorphosis'.

Two of Gecina's residential buildings have been chosen for this call for projects, located at 10 rue du Docteur Roux and 148 rue de Lourmel in Paris' 15th arrondissement, with a total of 8,500 sq.m of green spaces opened up for urban farming projects. The candidates, from farmers to landscape designers, architects, agricultural entrepreneurs, startups and charities, will have until this summer to submit their applications. In autumn 2016, an international jury will announce the winning Parisculteurs projects. In addition to factoring in the sites' existing landscape features, project owners will need to plan for regular activities and events for tenants at these two residences.

As Loïc Hervé, Gecina's Director of Real Estate Holdings, confirms: 'Since our properties are located primarily in Paris, it is important for Gecina to engage as a partner alongside the City of Paris' greening initiatives. Gecina is a responsible group, with strong commitments, and has signed up to the 'Target 100 hectares' charter. Through its buildings and projects, it aims to contribute towards the capital's urban regeneration and appeal, as well as quality of life for Parisians. For Gecina, this call for projects represents an opportunity to test out an innovative approach to capitalize on our green spaces and develop urban farming projects'.
