SEOUL, KOREA-September 20, 2016-Showcasing its rapid equipment upgrade capabilities for Asian utilities, GE's Power Services business (NYSE: GE) today announced it has successfully completed its first Fast Stator Rewind, an upgrade and life extension project, in Thailand. The rewinding project at Sahacogen (Chonburi) Public Company Ltd.'s natural gas-fired cogeneration plant in Chonburi province took 17 days to complete, nearly half the time it usually takes to finish a conventional rewind project. Sahacogen primarily generates and distributes electricity and steam to energy and industrial customers.

'We are very pleased to work with GE to help us successfully complete our generator stator rewind project so quickly, which allowed us to reduce the length of our maintenance outage and return the generator to service as quickly as possible,' said Mr. Thanawat Siwasoponpong, cogeneration power plant division manager of Sahacogen (Chonburi) Public Company Ltd. 'With this project, we will enhance the long-term availability of our cogeneration plant and meet Thailand's urgent energy supply needs.'

The project entailed GE upgrading the generator's stator bars, stator wedges and reused existing components. GE also installed a stator winding insulation system that included a number of upgrades to restore operational reliability and extend the generator's life for 20 years. Generally, these types of rewind projects take about 30 days to complete, but GE's field services team finished the project in just 17 days applying the company's Fast Stator Rewind concept.

'GE is very excited to complete the Sahacogen generator stator rewind project,' said Anders Maltesen, general manager for GE's Power Services business for the Asia-Pacific region. 'It's a great example of our continuous commitment to give our customers faster service and the highest quality of work to help increase their competitiveness. As more utilities seek to modernize their existing power plants, our Fast Stator Rewind capability offers an excellent option to increase the performance and availability of their generating equipment. It also highlights our capabilities to complete a 360-degree range of plant solutions-covering GE, Alstom and other OEM equipment-following GE's acquisition of Alstom Power in 2015.'
