WILMINGTON, NC-February 4, 2016-FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company has awarded a contract to GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) to provide outage services for the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.

The contract calls for GEH to provide a full portfolio of outage and inspection services including refuel floor, under-vessel activities and control rod drive mechanism exchange services for the boiling water reactor in Perry, Ohio.

'Innovative technologies like Stinger, a remotely operated in-vessel visual inspection tool, and our unique remote uncoupling solution reduce dose and save time, enabling customers to get their plants back online sooner,' said Lance Hall, Executive Vice President, Nuclear Fuels and Services, GEH. 'We look forward to offering these tools, project management expertise, technical rigor and highly skilled, experienced personnel to help FirstEnergy meet its outage and plant performance goals.'

The agreement runs through 2021 and includes three outages.

Perry's single unit GE boiling water reactor produces 1,268 megawatts of electricity, enough to power more than 1 million homes.
