• European made all-new Astra Sportwagon arrives in Australia
  • Astra Sportwagon combines sleek sports design with SUV-like space for the whole family
  • High-tech features include hands-free power tailgate, automatic park and auto emergency braking

Holden's new kid on the block, Astra Sportwagon, has landed in Australia offering customers a sleek and stunning blend of car-like dynamics and drivability with SUV-like space.

The thirteenth new vehicle to launch following Holden's 2015 promise to launch 24 new models by 2020, Astra Sportwagon joins its Astra Hatch and Astra Sedan siblings to complete Holden's most advanced small car range ever.

Designed and engineered alongside its hatch sibling, at Opel's Russelsheim headquarters, and built in the UK at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port manufacturing facility, Astra Sportwagon benefits from the same tuning setup as the hatch, co-developed by the Holden team over multiple European testing drives.

'Astra Sportwagon gives our customers a real alternative to small SUVs. It's got the space and practicality you'd expect of an SUV but with the style and performance of the award-winning Astra Hatch,' said Holden's Executive Director - Sales, Michael Filazzola.

'Astra Sportwagon is also packed to the brim with technology, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic park and a kick-gesture power tailgate which is great when your hands are full with the week's grocery shop!'

But it's not all about space and practicality, dynamically Astra Sportwagon is no slouch with the same punchy 1.4-litre turbo engine and six-speed automatic transmission as in the hatch, capable of producing 110kW and 240Nm torque. In terms of fuel economy, drivers can expect a frugal 5.9l/100km thanks to Astra Sportwagon's lightweight architecture and stop/start technology across the range.

Important for SUV converts and active families, Astra Sportwagon boasts an impressive 1,630L (rear seats folded) boot space, in addition to all the high-tech safety features you'd expect of a new Holden.

Astra Sportwagon is protected by a full suite of active safety technology including Auto Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert in addition to a Rear View Camera - all available as standard across the range. All combine to offer a full five star ANCAP safety rating.

Astra Sportwagon will be available at Holden dealerships nationwide from October.
