Midwest Generation, GenOn Energy Announce Power Plant Closings -WP

Midwest Generation LLC, an indirect unit of Edison International (>> Edison International), plans to close two coal-fired power plants in Chicago, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
The Fisk plant will close in 2012, and the Crawford plant will shut down in 2014. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel recently warned Midwest that the plants could potentially be closed if they didn't reduce pollution, the Post reported.
Meanwhile, GenOn Energy Inc. (>> Genon Energy Inc) said it will deactivate eight power plants, "because forecasted returns on investments necessary to comply with environmental regulations are insufficient," the Washington Post reported.
GenOn will close 3,140 megawatts of generation capacity in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, according to the report.
