Warsaw Capital Market Summit 2014 Awards
for strengthening investments in Central Europe

Norway's Government Pension Fund Global, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and PKP Cargo - Poland's largest railway cargo carrier, have won the Warsaw Capital Market Summit 2014 Awards. The awards recognise the excellence of institutions and their efforts in building a strong and attractive market in Poland and the whole of Central and Eastern Europe. The awards ceremony took place on 23 October during the official Gala at the National Museum in Warsaw.

The Warsaw Capital Market Summit 2014 Awards are granted as part of the Conference organised by Poland's Ministry of Treasury, Warsaw Stock Exchange and the Central Securities Depository of Poland (KDPW), together with their Partners. For the fourth time, the Conference focuses on the major developments and challenges facing capital markets in the coming years in CEE countries. It also provides an opportunity to discuss the long-term development of global markets as well as a chance to network and share experiences.

The Awards Committee, presided by Wojciech Kowalczyk, Undersecretary of State in Poland's Ministry of Treasury, granted awards in three categories: Best International Emerging Europe Long Fund 2013/2014, Best IPO on the Warsaw Stock Exchange 2014, and The Bridge Award 2014.

The winner of The Bridge Award 2014 was the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. For many years, EBRD has been one of the pillars of the successful economic transformation of the CEE region. This award is also a symbol of the role that the Warsaw Stock Exchange plays in Central and Eastern Europe.
"Over the last few years Poland, as well as Central and Eastern Europe have become an integral part of the global investment map. Being on the crossroads of the west and east, Poland has always had a special role in the region. As this year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of regaining our independence and becoming a market economy, The Bridge Award 2014 which honours fostering growth and development of our region gains a special meaning,'' says Włodzimierz Karpiński, Minister of Treasury of the Republic of Poland.

The Best International Emerging Europe Long Fund 2013/2014 was Norway's Government Pension Fund Global. It is the largest sovereign wealth fund in the world, holding stocks, bonds and real estate in attractive regions with future potential. Overall assets under management amount to EUR 650 billion, of which EUR 180 billion is dedicated to European equities. For several years this global investor has also been present on the Polish capital market and holds shares of over 80 companies across different sectors and sizes.
"Investment funds play a key role in building a stable, liquid and attractive capital market. We are dedicated to encouraging long-term engagement of investment funds and managing assets of companies from Central and Eastern Europe,'' said Iwona Sroka, President & CEO of the Central Securities Depository of Poland.

The award for the Best IPO on the Warsaw Stock Exchange 2013/2014 went to PKP Cargo S.A. - the leader in rail transport of goods in Poland and the second largest such operator in the European Union. The company debuted on the public market in 2013, as the first railway business listed on the WSE. This IPO was unique in Europe - second largest IPO in Poland and fifth largest in the CEE region in 2013. Worth EUR 340 million, this was also the most significant debut from the transportation sector in Central and Eastern Europe since 2012. One month after the IPO, the share value rose by 28 per cent. "The Warsaw Stock Exchange remains Europe's leader in terms of IPOs. We recognise the best issuers whose success is measured by capital raised and the highest rate of return,'' said Paweł Tamborski, President & CEO of the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Each year, Warsaw Capital Market Summit 2014 attracts asset managers from leading global and regional financial institutions, representatives of public administration and economic journalists from around the world. During the conference, panellists discuss efficient investment and capital raising methods in countries within the region. Topics focus on the world's economic development, Europe's market potential and challenges in asset management.
